Thomas Woods
September 5, 1958 - June 9, 2016

   

Thomas James Woods, 57, of Randalia, Iowa passed away at his home on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Visitation will be from 4-7 Pm onThursday, June 16, at the Geilenfeld Funeral home in Oelwein. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday June 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. A Memorial fund has been established.

 

Tommy was born on September 5, 1958 in Oelwein, the son of Thomas and Carolyn Woods. He grew up in Oelwein and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1977. He was married to Terri Neunsinger in December of 1978. Together, they had two daughters, Courtney and Rachel. They were later divorced.

 

On June 1, 2002 he was united in marriage to Joyce Downs at West Union, Ia. Joyce passed away on September 15, 2015. Tommy was a farmer and took great pride in his craft. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley, traveling with family and friends, and spending time on the Mississippi River.

Tommy had a great passion to counsel and help anyone in need. Nobody was ever a stranger to Tommy. His greatest love in life was his family and friends, especially his daughters and his three grandsons. Tommy will be missed by all for his great generosity, love, loyalty and kindness. 

 

Tommy is survived by his two daughters, Courtney Woods of Oelwein and Rachel Woods of Marion, Iowa; three grandsons, Brady Fettkether, Drakesyn Woods and Christian Watermann; three sisters, Janna (Jack) Woods Hamilton Houston, TX, Jody  Woods Thompson of Delray Beach FL and Jill Woods Kelly of Oelwein; and his parents, Thomas and Carolyn Woods of Oelwein.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; a brother-in-law, Keith Thompson, his Grandparents and a number of other family and close friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with entire Woods family!! Tommy, Mitch & Mike (Nish) were my best buddies growing up! So many stories...picking up rock for Big Tom, Boy Scouts, the river, the Elks pool everyday in the summer, the diving competition, going back to work on the farm one summer when I had to take two classes at Upper Iowa...always so good to me!!! The time you drove to Rochester to watch my team compete...the wrestling matches in my basement...which I never won...helping my Mother when she needed it...u were such a kind soul!!! I could on and on about our Band of brothers...Tommy, Mitch, Mike, Kipper, John & others..we all either worked on the farm together of went to the river together...YOU will be missed!! Tom was a fellow classmate. He was never too busy to talk to you or to say "Hi" I remember talking to him at the 35th Reunion and thinking how he seemed to grow more humble with age and enjoyed the friendship.The 40th reunion will have a hole in it, because of him not being there

We are so sorry for your loss, he was the finest classmate one could have! We just want to say thanks for sharing him with us, our hearts weep for his Family and all his many friends.
He has touched so many people's lives over the years. Our hearts will never forget him, he will be missed at our 40th class reunion next year but truly He will never ever be forgotten! HE was one of the Good Guys.
