Joy Ann Hintz, 80, of Oelwein passed away March 19, 2016. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, March 25, 2016, where there will be an Oelwein Chapter #45 Order of Eastern Star service at 7:00 pm at the Geilenfeld Funeral home in Oelwein. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein with Rev. John Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Joy was born December 11, 1935 to Russell and Goldie (Dixon) Orth in Iowa City. On August 5, 1956 she was united in marriage to George Hintz in Oelwein. Joy graduated from Cromwell High School with the class of 1951 and attended Creston Jr. College. She taught at Country Schools for several years.
Joy was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church. For 59 years Joy was a member of the Oelwein Chapter #45 Order of Eastern Star. She was an RSVP volunteer at Wings Park and also volunteered at Fontana Park. Joy enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, knitting & crocheting.
Left to celebrate Joy’s life are her sons: Jon (Rebecca) Hintz, Champlin, MN, and Donald (Rhonda) Hintz, Anderson, IN; her daughters: Christine (Steve Buchanan) Griser, W. St. Paul, MN and Nancy (Rick) McElligott, Brooklyn Park, MN; 9 grandchildren: Krista and Nathan Hintz, Matthew, Christopher and Neil Griser, Allyson and Elizabeth McElligott, Shelby Hintz and Brian Lamey; 10 great-grandchildren: Malya, Ty, Gracelyn, Gabrial, Gwendolyn, Triston, Christopher, Lovelyn, Ian and Logan; her sister Goldie Mae Myers of West Union and sister-in-law Ann Orth of Oak Harbor, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents and her brother Leo Orth.
