Gayle Gene Tellin, 72, of Westgate, moved on to Heaven, on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home and one hour before services at St. Peter Lutheran church in Westgate. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 10:30 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate with Rev. Bert Mueller officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. A family memorial fund has been established.
Gayle was born on December 12, 1945 in Oelwein, the son of Donald and Martha (Sabin) Tellin. Gayle was baptized December 23, 1945 and confirmed March 22, 1959 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard, class of 1963. Gayle enlisted into the U. S. Navy and served on the USS Enterprise as a communications technician until 1966. He was united in marriage to Deloris Saathoff on June 24, 1967 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He retired from Qwest in February of 2004. Gayle enjoyed playing cards, fishing (especially in Canada), deer hunting, following the Hawkeyes and the Vikings and playing softball for the Westgate Tigers. His greatest love was his time spent with his family. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he was a church elder, a Fayette Co. Supervisor, CWA Union President, Democratic President of Fayette County, Commander of Am. Legion Post 92. He led a very active life and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris of 50 years of Westgate, three daughters, Christina (Brian) Andrews of Cedar Falls, Kimberly (Chad) Block of Tripoli and Chantel (David) Getter of Urbandale; eight grandchildren, Casey, Chance and Eve Andrews, Dylan and Lauren Block and Evan, Bryce and Carly Getter; two brothers, William (Joan) Tellin and Dennis (Jeanne) Tellin; a sister, Linda (Gaylen) Bell; six sister in laws, Betty Damon, Delma (Ron) Abbott & Becky Saathoff of Oelwein, Bernice (Dick) Keegan, Arizona, Margie (Jim) Adams and Judy (George) Adams of Clinton, Iowa; one brother in law George (Donna) Saathoff of Oelwein; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brother in laws, Bob & Bernard Saathoff, Loyal (Bud) Schult, Paul (Toby) Damon; two sister in laws, Joan Schult and Janette Saathoff.
