Walter Sellers, 97, of Oelwein passed away Sunday April 25, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 AM on Friday April 30, 2021 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Interment will then follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Walter was born on October 5, 1923 in What Cheer, Iowa the son of Addison and Mary (Nicholson) Sellers. He grew up in Southern Iowa for a short time then moved to Waterloo and then to the Fayette area. On December 3, 1943 he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Fauser in Oelwein, Iowa.
On July 25, 1944 Walter entered the Army in the Army Signal Corps. After training he served in the Pacific in 1945. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal-Japan, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award & Star. He returned to the United States in August, 1946 and discharged the same month with a rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He served 24 months 21 days.
After service Walter worked at the family service station in Maynard for a short time then moved to Oelwein and went to work at Montgomery Wards and later was employed at Donaldson’s until his retirement.
Walter enjoyed music and making Mandolins and repairing other string instruments. Walter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Walter is survived by two sons, Dennis (Anne) Sellers of Fayette, Iowa, Daryl (Jane) Sellers of Cedar Falls, Iowa, three grandsons, a granddaughter, six great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Ellen Sellers, wife and two grandsons.
