LaVern “Vern” Fox, 57, of Oelwein passed away Tuesday March 12, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo.  Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Thursday March 21, 2024 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  Memorial services will then begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Westgate. 

LaVern Eugene Fox was born in Iowa City on December 29, 1966 to parents LaVern H. and Shirley Lou Ann (Averill) Fox.  He attended Oelwein High School with the class of 1985.  On December 1, 1990 he was united in marriage with Kim Leuenberger in Plainfield.  They later divorced.  Vern was employed as a Production Manager for many years with Pries Enterprises in Independence.  He was a member of the Independence Volunteer Fire Department for several years.  Vern was an outdoorsman and loved to fish, hunt and golf.

Left to celebrate Vern’s life are his son: Ethan Fox of Cedar Falls; his mother Lou Ann Fox of Oelwein; his siblings: Sheryl Hull of Fairbank, Carolyn (Joel) Thies of Denver, and Rose (Dale) Johnson of Oelwein; his ex-wife Kim Fox of Independence; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father.
