Robert Carey, 68, of Oelwein, passed away late Saturday night, March 10, 2018 at Allen Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. There will be an open house from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Geilenfeld Funeral home in Oelwein. Burial will be at a later date.
Robert was born on July 22, 1949 the son of Hubert and Lillian (McNeal) Carey. He grew up in Oelwein, graduating from Oelwein High School in 1969. He worked at John Deere in Waterloo for thirty-four years. On April 12, 1980 he was united in marriage to Marlys Wyant in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He loved being at the river, fishing with the family, his big red truck and his dog Chloe. Robert had a loving family and they will miss him dearly.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marlys; eleven children, Angie (David) Schluetter of Washington, Iowa, Lisa (Jeff) Weber of Oelwein, Dawn Higuera of Cedar Falls, Brooke (Jim) Flood of Janesville, Denise (Derek) Videbeck of Waterloo, Jerry Shepherd of Janesville, Joe (Nicole) Sanko of Cedar Falls, Dustin (Hope) Boyer of Dunkerton, Frank (Julie) Boyer of Janesville and Ben Boyer of Cedar Falls; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; a brother, Gary Sevey of Springfield, MO and a sister Diane (Wayne) McCleary of Virginia Beach, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Chad David Grant.
