Richard “Slim” Anthes, 79, of Oelwein passed away Sunday April 4, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Oelwein. Private graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. The Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family.
Richard Cole Anthes was born May 18, 1941 on the family farm near Central City to parents Jacob and Opal (Cole) Anthes. He graduated from Strawberry Point High School with the class of 1960. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army. On October 1, 1966 he was united in marriage with Donna Roberts. Slim was employed as a truck driver for Plumb Supply until his retirement.
Slim enjoyed gardening, woodworking, the outdoors, visiting Amish country and playing lottery scratch tickets. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
Left to celebrate Slim’s life are his daughter Kamie Voges (Josh Brennan) of Oelwein; his grandchildren: Katelyn Brennan, Dylan Voges, Kayla Voges, Austin Brennan and Alana Voges; his great-grandchild Oakley and one on the way; his brothers: Earl Anthes, Alfred Anthes, Frank Anthes and Paul Anthes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna; and his brother Jake Anthes.
