Ray Schuler
February 26, 1945 - October 3, 2019

Ray Schuler, 74, of Oelwein passed away Thursday October 3, 2019.  Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 AM on Saturday October 12, 2019 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home.  Services will then begin at 11:30 AM.  Inurnment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ray Schuler was born in Independence on February 26, 1945 to parents Raphael and Lydia (Decker) Schuler.  He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School with the class of 1963.  On April 8, 1967 he was united in marriage with Mary Herrmann at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.  Ray had been employed with the City of Oelwein Street Dept., Keniston’s Meat and United Farm Tool.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers fan.

Ray was the kindest man who always put his family first and enjoyed life to the fullest.  He had a smile that could light up a room and was willing to lend a hand whenever he was able.  He taught his kids about the importance of hard work, staying true to your word, and always giving your best each and every day.

He enjoyed his coffee in the mornings around town, chatting with the guys.  He took great pride in any work that he did, whether it was mowing lawns, shoveling snow or delivering papers for the Oelwein Daily Register.  However, he especially took pride in being a crossing guard.  He loved interacting with the kids, making sure they were safe getting to and from school.

Left to celebrate Ray’s life is his wife Mary Schuler of Oelwein; his children: Eric (Ida) Schuler of Oelwein, Jeff Schuler of Oelwein and Elizabeth (Gene) Schuler of Grinnell; his grandchildren: Courtney, Clay, Amity, Gene “Tre”, Braelyn, Crayton and Garrett.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Donald Schuler; his sisters: Mary Jo Reisner and Doralee Schwake; his brothers-in-law: Junior Reisner and Carl Schwake.

We are so sorry to hear about Ray's passing. We went through school together at Sacred Heart, walked to school together when in grade school. His parents were my baptismal sponsors. He was the kindest, most thoughtful, caring person. He will be missed by all who were fortunate to know him. Rest in peace.
