Micheal T. Berger, 76, of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away on July 21, 2017. Memorial Mass will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday October 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #9 of Oelwein.
Micheal was born on December 31, 1940 in Oelwein, Iowa to parents Micheal J. and Marion I. (Stinson) Berger. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School with the class of 1959. He then attended Loras College in Dubuque. He later transferred to the University of Iowa in Iowa City and graduated with the class of 1963 with his BBA in Marketing. Micheal then served his country honorably in the United States Army from November 13, 1963 to September 11, 1967. During this time he was assigned to the Chief of Staff Office in Washington D.C. Micheal was employed in marketing and promotion with Pepsi Cola for 22 years. During this time, Micheal traveled the world to many countries, having met many people, including presidents and celebrities along the way. His work kept him away from home, however, he did manage to make it home for Christmas every year to play Santa Claus and see his family, until his parents had passed away.
Micheal also served his fellow man by starting an AIDS Hospice, building an Adoration Chapel, helping to feed the homeless, bringing the Eucharist to nursing and private homes, comforting the dying and helping to bring Christmas and Thanksgiving to those in need.
Micheal is survived by his cousins, Mrs. Pat Peterman of Webster City, IA and Jim (Sue) Berger of Cedar Rapids IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Marian Berger and his cousin Ed Berger.
