Merle Dean Dahl, 84, of Oelwein passed away early Monday, August 14, 2017 at Oelwein Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Geilenfeld Funeral home and one hour before services on Saturday. Funeral services are on Saturday August 19, at 10:30 am at the Geilenfeld Funeral home in Oelwein with Rev. Josh Schunk officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.
Merle was born on April 7, 1933 in Morse Bluff, NE. to Alfred and Norma (Cummins) Dahl. He graduated from Scribner High School in 1950, continuing his education at Creighton in Omaha. While still in college he was united in marriage to Marian Blumm on February 17, 1952. In his younger years Merle enjoyed farming and late was a farm machinery salesman, from there he was an insurance salesman and after retiring drove for Rite Price in Oelwein. Merle enjoyed fishing, going to Volga Lake, camping, dancing, watching football (sometimes on two TV’s at once) and golf, but his best enjoyment was his family. Merle had a great life and will be dearly missed.
Merle is survived by his wife, Marian, two daughters, Denise (Mark) Baker of Oelwein and Patrice (Jerry) Platner of Mechanicsville, a son Kirk (Di) Dahl of
Oelwein, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a brother, Dennis (Loree) Dahl of Scribner, NE. He was preceded by his parents, Norma and Alfred.
