Maxine Van Daele, 96, of Fairbank passed away Wednesday August 12, 2020 at MercyOne Senior Care in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday August 19, 2020 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Funeral services will then begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Linda Miller officiating. Interment will be in Fairbank Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Due to state and federal guidelines on gatherings regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing is required. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask.
Maxine Iola Van Daele was born in Cedar Rapids on September 12, 1923 to parents Wesley and Beatrice (Gable) Gardner. She graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1940. She then attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, studying Business. On August 17, 1947 Maxine was united in marriage with Robert Van Daele at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She had been employed with Wardell Chevrolet in Oelwein and was a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of the Fairbank United Methodist Church, where she was very active in many church groups.
Left to celebrate Maxine’s life is her son Jerry (Lynn) Van Daele of Fairbank; her grandchildren: Dr. Doug Van Daele of Iowa City, Aaron Van Daele of Fairbank and Eric Van Daele of Fairbank; her great-grandchildren: Ryan, Grace and Sophia Van Daele of Iowa City; her sister-in-law Becky Van Daele of Independence; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings: Don Gardner, Marie (Marvin) Strand and Mary (Robert) Nelson; her in-laws: Art (Angie) Van Daele, Julius (Bettie) Van Daele, Helen (Keith) Koile, Rene Van Daele and Alice Van Daele.
