Mark Steven Childers of Sumner, Iowa, passed away on November 2, 2016 at his home, with his family by his side. Services will be a private family gathering. Geilenfeld Funeral home is assisting the family.

Mark was born on June 22, 1954 in Rapids City South Dakota, the son of Harold and Edna (Miller) Childers. He attended the Oelwein High School. Mark worked in construction until his health began to fail. He was united in marriage to Patricia “Patti” Stammeyer on May 19, 1973 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.

Mark is survived by his wife, Patti of Sumner, Iowa; three sons, Thaddeus (Heather) Childers of Evansdale, Iowa, Tobin (Amy) Childers of Fergus Falls, South Dakota and Luke (Kim) Childers of Urbana, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tobin, Nick, Zander, Carey, Gabe, Quinn and McKinzie; 3-brothers, Ron (Joyce) Childers of Oelwein, Bob (Joan) Childers of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Dave Childers of Laramie, Wyoming; three sisters, Betty (Gary) Bass of Oelwein, Judy Brewer of Oelwein and Sandy Latham of Westgate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edna; two brothers, Gene and Butch and a sister, Jeanette.
