Madonna Stickel
February 9, 1938 - July 28, 2024

Madonna Mae (Roy) Stickel, 86, of Oelwein, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.  A Memorial Mass will begin at 1030 AM on Saturday August 17, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating.  Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein at a later date. 

Madonna was born February 9, 1938, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota to Louis and Florence (Noel) Roy, the seventh of twelve children.  After graduating from high school in Red Lake Falls, 1956, Madonna married Gordon Stickel September 28, 1957 making Crookston, Minnesota their first home base.  They were blessed with four children: Dana "Brenda", Kevin, Mary Beth and Dawn.  They moved to Baker, Oregon briefly in 1966 and onto Oelwein, Iowa in 1967.  They resided in Oelwein with brief moves to Newton, Riceville and Sumner, Iowa until their deaths (Gordon November 16, 2006).

Madonna's primary focus in life combined family, faith and service.  She cared deeply for others by feeding, cleaning and praying when and where needed.  She loved dancing, gardening and making things shine!  She was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church and Catholic Daughters of America in Oelwein.  She will be remembered by many for her laugh and the "look".

Madonna is survived by her children, Dana "Brenda" Starr of Cloverdale, CA and Kevin (Valerie) Stickel of Oelwein, IA; son-in-law Scott Hammond of Aurora, IA; brothers, Louis (Pauline) Roy, Philip Roy, Dennis (Audrey) Roy, John (Mary) Roy; sisters, Evelyn Larson, Eraine Faust, Jean (Marcel) LaJesse and sister-in-law, Gloria Roy; grandchildren, Majesta Gregory, Amber Walker, Nathan Stickel, Lyndsey Fitzgerald, Aaron Stickel and Jesse Hammond; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Madonna was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Florence Roy; her husband, Gordon Stickel; daughters, Mary Beth (Steve Walker) Stickel and Dawn Hammond; brothers, Lawrence Roy and Anthony Roy; sisters, Lucille Dufault and Julia Franken; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Dufault, William Franken, James Larson and Lee Faust; sister-in-law Sally Roy.
