Being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer has given me the opportunity to say goodbye and be able to share my story. I was born on April 23, 1956 in Fort Dodge Iowa to Jens and Joanne (Manship) Nielsen. I received my schooling through the Oelwein School System. I graduated with the best, the class of 1974. Then I went to Hawkeye Tech to obtain my License Practical Nurse degree. I worked for over 35 years as a LPN at the Oelwein Hospital and Clinics. Throughout my nursing career, I have met and worked with so many wonderful people.
On July 23, 1977 I married Bradley Louis Struve at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa. Together we raised our family on the Struve family farm outside of Maynard. We have a daughter Kylie Kay and a son Shane Bradley. They gave me my greatest joys, my granddaughters, Quinn Elizabeth, Claire Kathryn, Hadley Lynn, and Eleana Marie. This summer I especially enjoyed watching them play softball, dance, do gymnastics, and make first year milestones. I enjoyed our farm, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, smelling my lilacs, watching my yellow birds, and petting my animals. I also liked to read.
I want to thank Sue (and Tim) for being my best friends for all these years. Sue and I grew from being teenagers to grandmas together. I also want to thank Janice, Pat, and Mary B for always being a phone call away. I especially want to thank my husband for taking care of me. He took care of me so I could be home. We always said we would go through life together and we did. I love him very much.
My survivors are husband Brad Struve (Maynard), daughter Kylie (Mike) Ruess (Anamosa) and son Shane (Darcy) Struve (Clermont), granddaughters Quinn, Claire, and Hadley Ruess and Eleana Struve. Parents Jens and Joanne Nielsen (Oelwein), brother Mark (Anna) Nielsen (Mason City), sister Lori Garceau (Oelwein) brother-in-law Brent Struve (Evansdale) sister-in-law Barb (Lon) Tisue (Sumner). Nieces Crystal (Jason) Lange Sumner, Aimee Nielsen (Nashville, TN), Erin Nielsen (Mesa, AZ), Megan Nielsen (Mason City) and Tess Garceau (West Des Moines) Nephews Corey Tisue (Cedar Rapids) and Chad (Jessica) Tisue (Cedar Falls). Uncles and Aunts Kenneth and Marilyn Nielsen (Humboldt), Nancy Lenning (Humboldt), and Deb and Gary Christ (Minnetonka, MN) and many special cousins. Also I have 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew.
Preceded me in death are in-laws Orland and Mary Struve, grandparents Omar and Amy Manship and Chris and Thora Nielsen, aunt and uncles Robert and Mary Lou Manship, Don and Linda Heggen, Richard and Anna Torgerson, Roger Lenning, brother Kirk Nielsen, and nephew Stg. Seth Garceau.
I hope I left this world just a little bit better of a place to be, love Lynn.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Unity Point Hospice and Allen Hospital.
