Leland McIntyre, 79, of Oelwein passed away on Thursday January 30, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday February 6, 2025 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein with Funeral Services to follow beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Phil Rownd officiating and with Military Honors by the American Legion post 9 of Oelwein. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Leland Clair McIntyre was born in West Union on September 16, 1945 to parents Elbert and Zeona (Gager) McIntyre. He graduated from West Union High School with the class of 1963. Lee went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. On April 27, 1968 he was united in marriage with Barbara Wheeler in Oelwein.
Lee was employed for 35 years as an Electrician with Western Electric, AT&T Network Systems, Lucent Technologies and Nokia.
Following retirement in 2004, Lee enjoyed gardening and walking with Barbie and Polly. He also enjoyed his trips to the Amish with his son Stevie.
Left to celebrate Lee’s life are his wife; his son Steven McIntyre; his daughter-in-law Karla McIntyre; his grandchildren: Maxwell McIntyre and Sabrina McIntyre; his special family: Erin (Ron) Lickiss and Olivia, Garrett and Cori Lickiss, Diane and Terry Vanlaningham,Jason Lumbus and family, Lexi and Jaide Schultz and their children; a niece and nephew; and his fur friend Polly.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his son Brad McIntyre; his in-laws Fay and Betty Wheeler; and his sister Joann Anderson.
