Larry Lundry
February 24, 1944 - October 15, 2021

Larry Lundry, 77, of Oelwein passed away Friday October 15, 2021.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church in Maynard.  Services will then begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. John Kerr officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Long Grove Cemetery at Maynard.

Larry Eugene Lundry was born in Canton, IL on February 24, 1944 to parents Raymond and Geneva (Furniss) Lundry.  He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard.  On December 1, 1963 he was united in marriage with Kay Miller at the United Methodist Church in Dunkerton.  Kay passed away on October 13, 2006.  On July 26, 2008 he was united in marriage with Cindy (Theobald) Strecker at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein.

Larry was a lifelong farmer.  He claimed that he started driving tractor at age seven and never wanted to do anything but farm.  Later he also enjoyed driving a semi, hauling mainly grain and livestock.  His CB handle was “Popcorn” because of his fondness for that particular snack.

He developed an interest in tractor pulling and competed for more than 20 years.  In 2004 he was inducted into the Iowa Tractor Pulling Association Hall of Fame.

After tractor pulling he took flying lessons and obtained his pilot’s license.  He eventually owned two small planes and loved flying, especially when he could give his grandkids (or anyone else) plane rides.

Larry also enjoyed watching NASCAR and dirt track racing as well as college football, especially Iowa.

Left to celebrate Larry’s life are his wife Cindy; his children: John (Katie) Lundry of Temecula, CA, Joe (Kim) Lundry of Bettendorf, Jeff (Sandy) Lundry of Baldwin City, KS, and Debbie Beard of Columbus, OH; his siblings: Raymond Lee Lundry of Hazleton, Bess Spicknall of Greene, Pat Kruse of Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara Reisner of Alamosa, CO, Lou Pomeroy of Chaska, MN, and Sharon Johnson of Ames; his seven grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother Viola Lundry; and his first wife Kay.

To Lerry's family our deepest sympathy. We were so happy he made it to the Iowa Stare Fair pull in August. He was a great supporter to our pulling family. May you be comforted by knowing others share in your loss and fondly remember Larry and his Tractor "Little'Britches".

We want to express our sincere sympathy to each of Larry's siblings for their loss. As childhood neighbors,we recall the fun times our families had together as we frequently gathered for the big life celebrations like a family members' birthday, graduation, wedding,or other life plateau as well as the simple times where we all just watched YOUR tv together or played group games. As adults we continued to intermingle with Larry as we shared his love for antique farm tractors and the group rides allowing us to show them off. Lastly we recall his eagerness to always offer time or supplies that we or others might need, on a moments notice and expecting nothing in return. May such fond memories like these always bring smiles to each of our faces any time Larry comes to mind. God speed Larry. Bob (and Trudie) Friedly

Cindy:Sorry for your loss, you shared many years together and perhaps Larry left you with a little country girl blood. His farm was not far from where I grew up,heard our dad mention the Lundry name often. Cherish your memories/keep in touch.

So sorry to hear of Larry's death. My sympathy to you, Cindy and to each of Larry's children and their families. Larry and I had a lot of nice visits when we would meet up on 9th Street when we were both out walking. Funny, how it was always somewhere on 9th Street and never anywhere else. He was a very nice man and will be missed by so many.
