Janice Kay Liebe, 79, of Oelwein passed away on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. There will be no visitation, however, a time of fellowship at the American Legion Hall in Oelwein will follow the Funeral Mass. Funeral Mass will begin at 1:30 PM on Monday January 29, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Father Ray Atwood officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
Kay was born on January 21, 1939 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of John and Marguerite (Kirby) O’Hara. She grew up in Oelwein and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1957. On November 5, 1960 she was united in marriage to Jule “Chub” Liebe at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Kay worked with the hot lunch program at the middle school in Oelwein for over thirty years. Kay enjoyed fishing (Leech Lake, Lake Pepin for a few), cooking, gambling, crossword puzzles and sitting on her porch, but her greatest love was her family and their time together. Kay was a member of Sacred Heart Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. Although Kay is gone, her memory will live on.
She is survived by her husband Jule “Chub” Liebe; two daughters: Becky Huber (Chip) of Waterloo and Kristi (Mark) Schmuecker of Independence; a son Rick Liebe of Wadena; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister Jane Logan of Oelwein and four brothers: Donald O’Hara of Oelwein, Jack O’Hara of Minnesota, Pete O’Hara of California and William O’Hara of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Marguerite O’Hara, and Chub’s parents Lawrence and Thelma Liebe.
