Joan Stolfus, 85, of Oelwein passed away Tuesday April 11, 2023 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 PM on Monday April 17, 2023 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor Duane Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
Joan Helen Stolfus was born December 23, 1937 in Oelwein to parents Doris “Doc” and Lucille (Boots) Latham. She attended Oelwein schools. On June 12, 1955 she was united in marriage with James Richard Stolfus at the Christian Church of Oelwein. Joan had been employed with various restaurants and had managed apartments. She also was employed in food services with the Oelwein and Allison-Bristow community School Districts. She had been an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Oelwein. Joan enjoyed crafts, making jewelry, baking, travel and camping, going out to eat and shopping. Most of all, she enjoyed her family.
Left to celebrate Joan’s life are her children: Kris Bohlen of Nevada and Craig Stolfus of Ames; her grandchildren: Trent Bohlen, James Stolfus and Jon Stolfus; her great-grandchildren: Cora Bohlen, Greyson Stolfus and Davie Bohlen; her siblings: Carol Nielsen of Oelwein, Kenny (Marlyn) Latham of Catlin, IL, Linda (Mike) Steil of Fairbank, Jon Latham of Oelwein, Mary Ritter of Oelwein, Lowell Latham of Oelwein and Beatrice (Ted) Leonard of Winterset; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim; her grandson Jamie Stolfus; her siblings: Duane Latham, Ronnie Latham, Beryl Latham and Faye Zeigler.
