James R. Fortsch, 67, of Keokuk, and formally of Oelwein, passed away on Saturday October 8, 2016 in Keokuk. There will be visitation on Saturday October 15, 2016 from 1-3 PM at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Burial will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
Jim was born on July 21, 1949 in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Don D. and June R. (Tatro) Fortsch. He grew up in Oelwein and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1967. Jim married Diane Losee in March of 1978 in Mason City, Iowa and they were later divorced. They had one daughter, Sarah.
He is survived by his daughter Sarah (Randy) Fortsch Harrel of Decatur, Texas; two step sons, Corey and Tracy; grandchildren, Brendon, Jakoby, Bizzy, Chelsea, Jenna, Everlee, Spencer, Shayna and Hanna; two great grandchildren, Mason and Trayton; a brother Bill (Cindy) Fortsch of Oelwein; five sisters, Debby (Darrell) Avery of Meservey, Iowa, Jane Harp, Deedee Larson, Robin Fortsch and Chris Gonterman all of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and June and a niece and a nephew.
Jim will be remembered most for his kind and caring heart and his passion for music and gardening.
