Harold Leo Fettkether, 88, of Oelwein passed away on Saturday May 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday May 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
Harold was born on October 31, 1926 in Fairbank, Iowa to parents Martin and Genevieve (Kolb) Fettkether. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. Harold then served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in the Philippines.
Harold was united in marriage with Agnes Fischer on April 26, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa. He was employed for many years in the maintenance dept. with Northwestern Bell. He was then employed in the maintenance dept. with the Oelwein Community School District until his retirement. Harold enjoyed music and especially the Leo Greco Show every Sunday. Most of all, he was a family man, enjoying all the time he spent with them. He will be dearly missed.
Left to celebrate Harold’s life is his wife Agnes; his son Patrick (Sandy) Fettkether of Pleasant Hill, CA; his daughter Ann (Jamie) Lockwood of Hiawatha, IA; his grandsons: Christopher Fettkether of San Jose, CA and Andrew Fettkether of Hiawatha, IA; and his sister Patricia (Al) Chidester of Evansdale, IA.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Charles, Robert, Norbert, and Leon Fettkether; and his sister Mary Fettkether.
