Gail Holland, 87, of Oelwein passed away Tuesday June 4, 2024 at Oelwein Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM on Saturday June 22, 2024 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein. Celebration of Life services will then begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dave Byrd officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Brooklyn, IA.
Gail Marie Holland was born in Brooklyn, IA on April 22, 1937 to parents Glen and Gladys (Hiner) Wheeler. She graduated from Brooklyn High School. On July 29, 1954 she was united in marriage with Larry Dean Holland in Grinnell. Gail was the office secretary and dispatcher for the Iowa State Patrol, Post 10 in Oelwein for 25+ years.
Many family memories were made with their children and grandchildren at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. They also enjoyed their trips to Delaware to visit their daughter Susy and family. After Gail retired they moved to Bella Vista, AK and continued to travel and visit places they loved. Gail loved birds with the Cardinal being one of her favorites. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching sports.
Left to celebrate Gail’s life are her children: Susan Zanatta of Seaford, DE and Steven (Christina) Holland of Oelwein; her grandchildren: Justin (Shelly) Zanatta, Skyler (Justin) Schrock, Shannon (Skip) Meyer, Heather (Cody) Hermansen and Shelby (Jake Eitel) Holland; and her twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Larry, of 67 years; her siblings: Eugene Wheeler and Marlene Carter; and her son-in-law Ron Zanatta.
