Florine Hillman, 85, of Oelwein passed away Thursday December 3, 2020 at Oelwein Healthcare Center. Private graveside services will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton. A memorial fund has been established.
Florine May Hillman was born in Greeley, IA on December 29, 1934 to parents Melvin and Jennie (Johnson) Jencks. On November 21, 1954 she was united in marriage with LaVerle (Ed) Hillman at First Christian Church in Oelwein. Flo was employed in the kitchen at Grandview Nursing Home in Oelwein for many years. Following retirement from Grandview she cleaned houses for many in the Oelwein area. Flo volunteered for the Headstart Program, Shriner’s Auxiliary and enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church Women’s Circle.
For Flo, it was all about family. She loved to cook with, and for her family. Everyone loved her cucumber salad and cherry dessert. She thoroughly enjoyed family time and family gatherings. She also enjoyed her Minnesota fishing trips and her travels out to California to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to dance and had a wonderful time dancing once at a Mexican party while visiting California. She loved flowers, gardening, visiting over a cup of coffee and going out to eat. She also liked taking road trips to shop and people watch. Flo was lovingly known for her RED lipstick kisses.
Left to celebrate Flo’s life are her children: Dennis (Carol) Hillman of Hazleton, Christina (Steve) Holland of Oelwein and Dan (Christina) Hillman of Oelwein; her grandchildren: Kim (Christian) Gray, Jay (Elizabeth) Hillman, Stephanie (Jerry) Alarcon, Shannon (Skip) Meyer, Heather (Cody) Hermansen, Shelby Holland and Christopher Hillman; her great-grandchildren: Jayce, Cael and Natalie Gray, Jazmine, Jaylyn, Isaiah and Skarlet Alarcon, Ashland, Austin, Madison, Mason, Mia and Reese Meyer and Teagan Hermansen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Hillman, her parents Melvin and Jennie Jencks and her brother Gerald Jencks.
