Dawn Hammond, 55, of Aurora passed away Saturday March 5, 2022. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 AM on Monday March 14, 2022 at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Funeral services will then begin at 11:30 AM with Pastor Duane Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
Dawn Ellen Hammond was born in Baker, Oregon on July 29, 1966 to parents Gordon and Madonna (Roy) Stickel. On May 1, 1993 she was united in marriage with Scott Hammond at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Dawn had been employed as a cook with various restaurants.
Dawn loved people. She chose early in life to feed them both professionally and privately as an exceptional cook and baker. Bringing her son into the world was a major accomplishment on a personal level. Otherwise, you would often find her creatively crafting something with materials such as fabric, yarn, stitching, paints, or puzzles to name a few. And like the butterflies she was fond of, she now soars in her next form.
Left to celebrate Dawn’s life are her husband Scott Hammond of Aurora; her son Jesse Hammond of Aurora; her mother Madonna Stickel of Oelwein; her siblings: Dana “Brenda” Starr of Oelwein and Kevin (Valerie) Stickel of Oelwein; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Gordon Stickel; and her sister Mary Beth Stickel.
