David Jaeger, 68, of Oelwein passed away on Thursday September 15, 2016 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. Memorial services will begin at 2 PM on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oelwein. Inurnment will be at a later date.
David Leroy Jaeger was born on September 26, 1947 in Anamosa, IA to parents Elmer and Lodema (Wells) Jaeger. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1966. He had been employed as a welder with Caterpillar. On April 6, 1996 he was united in marriage with Marilyn Douglass in Oelwein. David enjoyed gardening and sharing his products with his friends. He loved sharing his garden with friends by letting them do their own gardening. He also enjoyed shopping at the Amish stores, picking apples and peaches. He was nicknamed the “Candy Man”, always having candy in his pocket for anyone he met. He loved to make people smile. David enjoyed life and will be dearly missed.
Left to celebrate David’s life is his wife Marilyn; his children: Troy Jaeger of Oelwein and Travis (Monica) Jaeger of Oregon; his siblings: John (Sue) Jaeger of Monticello, Daniel Jaeger of Oelwein, Janice (Gary) DeVries of Marion and Charolette (Richard) Lutz of Oelwein; his grandchildren: Samantha, Emily, Trevor, Tyler and Taylor Jaeger; his great-granddaughter Alisha Jaeger; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Elmeree Sproston, Sylvia Jaeger and Phyllis Jaeger.
