Betty Damon, 88, of Oelwein passed away Saturday October 21, 2023 at her home.  A Memorial Open House will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday November 4, 2023 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein.  A memorial fund has been established.  

Betty Charlene Damon was born in Manchester on April 16, 1935 to parents George and Ella (Waddell) Saathoff.  She graduated from Oelwein High School with the class of 1953.  On April 2, 1953 she was united in marriage with Paul “Toby” Damon in Oelwein.  Betty began her career at the age of 16 working at the Candy Box in Oelwein, where she learned the value of hard work and loyalty.  Later in life, she worked at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein in various roles.  In their retirement, Betty and Toby managed the Lakeview Mobile Home Court in Oelwein for over 20 years.    

Betty is survived by her children: Jim (Teresa) Damon of Maynard and Jody Damon of Oelwein; her grandchildren: James 9Ariel) Damon, Calvin Damon, Andrea (James) Ricchio and her great-grandson Emmit Ricchio; her sisters: Margie Adams, Delma Abbot, Deloris Tellin, Judy (George) Adams and Bernice (Dick) Keegan; her brother-in-law Aaron (Denise) Damon; her sisters-in-law: Becky Saathoff, Joyce Damon, Genevive Damon and Carol Damon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Douglas at birth, her brothers: Bob Saathoff, Bernard Saathoff and George Saathoff; her sister Joan Schult.
