Betty Bass, 71, of Oelwein passed away Friday August 30, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Wednesday September 4, 2019 at the Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM on Thursday September 5, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Schunk officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein.  A memorial fund has been established.

Betty Lou Bass was born September 30, 1947 in Edgewood, IA to parents Harold and Edna (Miller) Childers.  On November 20, 1971 she was united in marriage with Gary Bass at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein.  Betty had been employed as a Nurse’s Aide with Grandview Nursing Home in Oelwein.  She enjoyed bowling, card parties and her cats “Trouble” and “Tippy”.  Most of all, she enjoyed her family.

Left to celebrate Betty’s life is her husband Gary; her children: Jerry Bass of Oelwein, Scott Bass of Oelwein, Robert Sommerfelt of Colorado, Heather Bass of Oelwein, Bobbie Jo Bass of Waverly and Linda (Curt) Sparks of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Dave Childers, Robert (Joan) Childers, Ron (Joyce) Childers and Sandy (Donnie) Latham.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Diana Latham; her daughter-in-law Mindie Waite-Bass; her siblings: Gene Childers, Butch Childers, Mark Childers, Janet Gossard and Judy Brewer.
